Designspiration : communication of objects

Traditional architecture taken to a whole new level by New York City design firm Roman & Williams. With a mixture of textures, found objects and collaborative pieces with local artists, they create experiences in their spaces in a vignette of how everything interacts with each other. The design duo Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch are the 'creatives' behind the company and have a style best described as modern with intrigue, vintage charm, industrial, earthy, a little masculine, and very dramatic. It's people like them who make me excited as a designer because they produce conversation spaces; without being pretentious or stuffy. Places you can actually imagine being in. With friends, having a drink, sharing stories and creating new ones. The last few images are of the R&W offices. Must be easier to think of intriguing designs when you're surrounded with such amazing objects and textiles. I don't know about you, but this is on a whole new level of cool.

Fun fact : After the couple worked on the set of the 'impressive' movie Duplex, Ben Stiller was so impressed with their work that he commissioned them to work on his Hollywood Hills home. Oh, to be rich and famous.

We All Scream

...for ICE CREAM! So, this is another class assignment. If I could imagine the perfect ice cream getaway for myself and my lover, then this would be branding that would make me happy. The ad campaign I was given was to re-brand the current Baskin-Robbins to a more upscale and adult friendly environment, without losing it's current customer base. I'm thinking less Ben & Jerry's and a more modern Haagen Daz. Are you feelin it or what?

bird is the word

Here's a website I finished for class, and I am pretty darn happy with it. Usually I stress out at the though of using PS for a whole project, but this wasn't too bad.
Two more weeks until winter break :)

miniatures. (sort of)

These are reminiscent of little miniature displays really really loved when I was a kid.
Tonight I'm going to a AIGA disc slam (different artists have a few minutes each to show their work on a CD to a group) with Dominic and his dad. I am totally pumped to see how this is going to work. And the best part is that it's being held at Canyon Creative; I got a chance to go there for a field trip and their offices were so cool. K I'm off to get ready right now :)

So, it is summer break and Dom and I are on a wonderful staycations at the Palms Place. This place is... okay. Haha, I don't really know what to say, this place isn't really my scene. Maybe I'm being harsh because I hates the bed. Try sleeping on a tempurpedic bed every night then switching over to a spring mattress. My back is suffering I tell you! Anyway, I just acquired these pretties:

Don't you love the summer?

ps- My childhood hero Michael Jackson is DUNZO

Currently working on...

Natalie Portman, watercolor gouache
This is my second try with her portrait, and I am pretty happy with myself with being so patient and really taking the time to keep checking my reference.

And an update on my last drawing:

I was planning for that one to be good enough for the display case at school but... eh. Not so sure any more. In any case. I have been officially DUNZO with Spring quarter for the past half an hour. I am so relieved. Now me and Dommie have more time for screen printing stufff. Yay excited!

edit; This video totally expresses how I feel. And I am totally digging the totally profesh backdrop they have going on. :)

Baaaackstage!

In all honesty, I think her music is catchy. Like that Lady GaGa person. In any case, I did these for class, und I liken dis vurry mush! Okay, that was annoying.
I have one more week of school! I am pretty hyped for the whole three weeks worth of summer break. Haha. Top Chef Masters is pretty good. Dom and I are rooting for Hubert Keller, I don't think it has anything to do with my old man crush...

My love for Miss Moss expressed in a magazine cover.

Olé !

My first pastel piece for Illustration class. We were assigned to do a travel magazine cover with our choice location. My choice: Spain! It's not that tight of an illustration but pastels tend to go towards the softer look. (which I likey vurry mush!) I used Prismacolor NuPastels and Carbothello pastel pencils on faun Stonehedge paper. This was so much fun, I really want to get into pastels now!

Cool Ethan.

I haven't updated in a while, mainly due to the fact that school is overwhelming AND my oh so guilty pleasure called... World of Warcraft. Anyways, snaps for Jason Schwartzman :)

I designed some tankies last night, just some ideas that I'll turn into screens. I just photoshopped these babies on a plain white tank. Since summer is here(at least in Vegas it feels like it has been full force summer since last month uggh) and I really hate wearing anything with sleeves, tank tops it is!

Live fast, die young

(another; but way simpler) 'on the reg'

This last one was made especially for my girl Dre! (aka recipeforwreckage) Just a custom lowrider stencil.

Contemplating on whether or not to put a design up on my CafePress store. I have so much work to do for school :( But the weekend is here!

inspiring lady: autumn whitehurst

This last one was in Las Vegas Weekly; a local (free!!!) LV magazine that is distributed at my school.

(her artwork via art-dept.com)

I have my own personal tiffs about some digital illustrators, but you can tell from her work that she knows her traditional painting. I really like the blend of contour line drawing and that smooth smooth gradiation she uses for the faces and flesh tones. Talk about idealism, I mean their skin looks so nice and dewy for being a digital portrait, dontchathink? And here is Miss Autumn Whitehurst herself:
